Have you found yourself in “transition” with the best income opportunities to become an independent consultant?  Do you know of a company who will not hire you as an employee, but may engage you as an independent consultant?

Join Ron Bettin at this session as he shares some simple practical advice from his own experience as an independent consultant and business owner.  A few topics that will be covered:

  • Establishing yourself as a “Subject Matter Expert”

  • Setting up your consulting business

  • Your relationship with clients

  • Retaining clients

This interactive session will encourage participants to share learnings, tips and tricks from their own experiences.

PRESENTER

Ron Bettin is a respected executive business leader and strategist with a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit that spans energy (upstream & midstream), industrial, consumer products, and business start-ups. He is a co-founder of several companies, Chair of a MacKay CEO Forum and provides management consulting services to share his expertise. He is experienced in both domestic and international settings, with a keen sense of stakeholder collaboration, cultural adaptability, and strong team dynamics.

Over his career, Ron has applied his business acumen in a wide variety of leadership roles. As a management consultant, he provides critical leadership, project management, and mentoring to help companies fill essential leadership gaps for companies of any size, from a small start-up to a large organization.

Ron’s experience includes starting-up and managing oil & gas operations in Northern BC and Alberta for Westcoast Energy and EnCana before working internationally in South America and the North Sea. After his international assignments ended, he led EnCana’s Asset Management Team before leaving to embark on his entrepreneurial journey. Ron has also been a founding executive partner for two oil & gas exploration companies: Shale Exploration and Shale Petroleum.

Ron is also the inventor of the WalkTop Treadmill Desk, which was conceived while he was recovering from spinal surgery after an ATV accident in 2011. In 2015, with three other MBA classmates, he started the ergonomic retail company Fitneff.ca, which sells the WalkTop and other ergonomic solutions across Canada. Finally, Ron is the co-founder of ReSourceYYC, a Coworking Hub for entrepreneurial professionals in Calgary.

Ron is a graduate of Queen’s University Executive MBA program, SAIT’s Industrial Engineering Technology (Operations Management) and is a Second Class Power Engineer. He has also studied at the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai.
